Team oriented means that people will try to cooperate, using their individual skills and providing constructive feedback, despite any personal conflict between individuals.
Team oriented in perspective business is a spirit of teamwork and collaboration can capitalize on the individual strengths of their employees.   When effective teams are in place, the collective product is greater than the sum of the individual effort.  There are a number of tactics that can foster a team orientation, from team building and diversity workshops to retreats, merit systems that identify and recognize team-oriented behavior  and processes that facilitate project teams.

In other than that, team oriented allows employees to take greater responsibility for decision making and also allows team members to control more of the work process. Working on a team also gives employees a greater sense of belonging and of recognition, which helps them take more pride in their work, and their company.

3.8.1   THOMAS EDISON

Figure 3 : Thomas Edison

Thomas Edison was born on 11 February 1847 in Milan, Ohio. He grew up in Port Huron, Michigan. His father is Samuel Ogden Edison and his mother, Nancy Matthews Elllott.   He was the seventh and last child of Samuel Ogden Edison and Nancy Matthews Elliott. His wife is Mary Stilwell and Mina Miller.  They have six children. Thomas received little formal education. In 1859, he left school to being working on the railroad between Detroit and Port Huron, Michigan, where his family then lived.
Thomas began working at an early age, as most boys did at the time.   At thirteen he took a job as a newsboy, selling newspapers and candy on the local railroad that ran through Port Huron to Detroit.   He seems to have spent much of his free time reading scientific, and technical books, and also had the opportunity at this time to learn how to operate a telegraph. By the time he was sixteen, Thomas was proficient enough to work as a telegrapher full time.
In 1868 Thomas became an independent inventor in Boston. Moving to New York the next year, he undertook inventive work for major telegraph companies.   With money from those contracts he established a series of manufacturing shops in Newark, New Jersey, where he also employed experimental machinists to assist in his inventive work.

Thomas moved to New York City in 1869. He continued to work on inventions related to the telegraph, and developed his first successful invention, an improved stock ticker called the "Universal Stock Printer".
From 1870 to 1875, Thomas worked out of Newark, New Jersey, where he developed telegraph-related products for both Western Union Telegraph Company (then the industry leader) and its rivals. Near the end of 1875, observations of strange sparks in telegraph instruments led Edison into a public scientific controversy over what he called "etheric force," which only later was understood to be radio waves.

The success of his electric light brought Thomas to new heights of fame and wealth, as electricity spread around the world.  Thomas 's various electric companies continued to grow until in 1889 they were brought together to form Edison General Electric.  Despite the use of Thomas in the company title however, he never controlled this company.

Thomas worked with William Dickson from 1888 till 1893 on a motion picture camera. Although Edison had always had experimental assistants, this was the clearest instance of a co-invention for which Edison received sole credit.
Thomas Edison died of complications of diabetes on October 18, 1931, in his home, "Glenmont," in West Orange, New Jersey.  He was 84 years old.  Many communities and corporations throughout the world dimmed their lights or briefly turned off their electrical power to commemorate his passing.
